My Shaklee Before and After Pictures

Hi y’all !
Assalamu’alaikum. :)

Hope everyone is doing a-ok. :)
I have deliberated for quite some time to share these pictures with all of you because the before pictures are a bit embarrassing.
But I thought that since there has been improvement and it’s obviously a positive thing, I definitely should share them !

First and foremost, I would like to state that I have never had flawless skin and even now, it is not completely flawless.
A little history – I started breaking out in high school all the way through university. I have used benzoyl peroxide gel, adapalene gel and topical antibiotics for my acne.
In 2008, the doctor I saw in HKL when I went for my pre-employment medical check-up prescribed a 4-months course of oral antibiotics for me.
I did not even complain about my complexion, so that’s how bad my acne was ! Sob sob.

I know how it feels to not want to go out and the let whole world see how ugly my skin was. I had very low self-esteem and I was always self conscious and sort of depressed because how my complexion looked like. :(

Alhamdulillah, the oral antibiotics did help to clear up my skin but I still had acne scars, both dark and pitted ones which are more prominent on the right side of my face.
That’s why I have gotten used to showing the left side of my face when I pose for photos. Haha.

Presenting, the transformation of the right side of my face !

shaklee before and after

As you can see, that was how my right cheek looked like back in 2006 – red, pimply and scarring was obvious.
In 2012, I had less pimples but my scars were still very much obvious. I just started consuming Shaklee products that year.
And the most recent photo in 2015 was taken a couple of days ago. Can you see the difference ?
Alhamdulillah ! :)

The 2006 photo was taken using my Canon digital camera, the 2012 one using my Samsung Galaxy S2 (and you can still see the scars so clearly !) and the 2015 photo was taken with my Note 3.

Here’s another photo:
shaklee before and after

How I looked in 2008 compared to how I look now. Can you see spots, scars and red inflamed skin in the 2008 photo – even on my left cheek ?

Alhamdulillah, Shaklee products (only with Allah’s grace of course !) has helped improve my skin tremendously. I do occasionally get zits these days but they are definitely not as bad as before.

I have also managed to lose some weight and maintain it with the help of Shaklee products and some exercise.
I have been battling with weight issues for as long as I can remember. I think I was at my heaviest during my diploma days – my weight once reached 60 kgs. My weight dropped to about 46 -48 kgs after a bad breakup but I gained all of it back after that. Haha.

I was 52 kgs when I got married and 54 kgs before I got pregnant.

Of course, I ballooned during and after pregnancy ! I gained a whopping 16kgs which means I was 70 kgs before I delivered Khayla.
After giving birth, my weight plateaued at 57 -58kgs and I struggled to lose that excess 4-5 kgs.

shaklee before and after

I have managed to bring my weight down to about 52- 53 kgs now. Look how chubby I was 2 years ago !

Alhamdulillah, I am so grateful Allah has led me to Shaklee and I love how it has helped improve my life. :)
If you want to know what Shaklee supplements I am taking on a daily basis, you can click here. :)

Of course, you can contact me if you need free personal advice and consultation (unless you’ve already bought you Shaklee supplements from someone else, then you should seek advice from that person, hehe).

Fun fact: Mr Sunshine got to know me back in late 2007 when I was all pimply and chubby, haha. I love you Sunshine ! :*

Ok bye !

Khayla after 2 months at an Islamic Montessori

So it has been a little over 2 months since Khayla started going to an Islamic Montessori.
Remember how worried and paranoid I was ? If you don’t, you can click here. Hehe.

Alhamdulillah we are noticing progress, not only in terms of the English language but in a whole lot of other aspects.

I can speak to Khayla in English now, well in simple sentences lah. I can ask her whether she wants more rice, how is she, what did she eat and do at school etc.
Although she would often answer in Malay but the fact that she can understand me and answer is progress !
She is slowly learning to form English sentences. Two days ago she said to me, “Mummy, I want milk and watch TV and cartoon, please.”
Grammatically all over the place but I am so proud of her ! *happy tears*

I can also make up bedtime stories in English now, and she would understand. Why do I say make up stories ?
Well, last night she wanted me to tell her a story about Elsa, Anna, Sheep, Crocodile and Hello Kitty, the night before it was about Elsa, Sheep & Tortoise.
Hahaha, the things parents do to make their children happy !

She has been learning her ABCs along with phonics and of course numbers too.

She has started learning Iqra’, memorizes about 6 sentences of Surah Yasin, she also memorizes Surah Al-Ikhlas, knows the niat and some of the verses to recite during Solat Dhuha, including the do’a.
She had already learned Surah Al-Fatihah, do’a before eating and sleeping in her previous nursery.

islamic montessori
So there you go, am looking forward to more progress, InshaAllah.

Alhamdulillah.
Alhamdulillah.
May Allah protect my baby and help her learn. Ameen.

Potty Training Tips

Good morning y’all ! :)

Alhamdulillah we can say that Khayla has been 98% potty trained since November last year when she was 39 months old. I know some people might be thinking that 39 months is a bit late for potty training but every mummy knows what’s best for their child, kan kan kan ? :)

Potty Training Tips

Thanks Google !

I will not say she is 100% potty trained because she still needs to wear diapers when she sleeps.
But apart from that, she goes around diaper-free ! Here are my potty training tips. :)

Actually, prior to our success, I have tried to potty train her twice, I tried the ‘asking method,’ you know asking her every 5 minutes whether she wanted to go pee. She would answer no but she always ended up peeing in her pants. I gave up because I felt bad when she felt bad about peeing in her pants. Hehe.

But early November last year while I was on leave for a couple of days, I tried a different method.
I decided to not let her wear diapers but instead of asking her whether she needed to pee, I brought her to the toilet every 15 minutes.
Well, I started with 15 minutes, then it was every 30 minutes and slowly worked up to an hour. Within 2 days, she was able to pee AND poop on her own ! :)

Getting her to do her no. 2 in the toilet was a bit of a challenge though, although she always could tell us when she felt like going, the first few times were difficult because I guess she was still trying to get the ‘feel’ because she was so used to pooping in her diapers behind doors, behind sofas or curtains. Haha.

But Alhamdulillah she managed to get herself to poop in the toilet within that two days.
Alhamdulillah.
I am so proud of my baby ! *happy tears*

Here are what I think are some useful tips:

  1. Make sure your child is really ready
    – Is your child giving you physical or verbal sign when he’s having a bowel movement such as grunting, squatting, or telling you.
    – Does your child demonstrate a desire for independence. Khayla starting telling us that she does not want to wear diapers because she’s a big girl now. Hehe.
  2. Follow whatever works for your child. The ‘asking method’ might not have worked for me, but it could work for you. So go ahead and try.
  3. It helps if they’re mixing with older children who do not wear diapers. Like in my case, Khayla had friends at her nursery so that kinda influenced her too. :)
  4. Don’t get angry at them for peeing or pooping everywhere during the process. Hehe. Be patient parents ! Getting angry at them will only discourage them. I’m sure they already feel guilty about peeing in their pants, please don’t make them feel worse. Reassure them that it’s ok and you know they didn’t do it on purpose.
  5. If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again (thanks Aaliyah). Never give up, try again & again. Have trust and faith in you child, both of you will make it ! :)

Good luck y’all ! :)

The Battle of Head Lice and Khayla’s New Hairdo

4 weeks ago, I decided to chop Khayla’s hair off after her nursery teacher told me that she had head lice (again !).

Allow me to shed some light on our experience with head lice.

The first time we discovered Khayla had lice was after we got back from our Borneo Tour. What’s worse my head was infected too ! I noticed that she was scratching her head while we were in Karambunai, but I thought it was due to the chicken pox. I was also scratching my head, and I thought it was because I was using the hotel’s shampoo instead of my usual Prosante Shampoo. How blur can one be ? Isk isk.
When we found out from her nursery teacher that she had lice, then it all made sense. Haha.

Managed to settle that episode with lots of head lice shampoo, Basic H and lots of combing. Note: Never use those plastic combs which come with the lice shampoo. They’re useless !

And the Khayla came home with lice again two weeks after that. I guess she got it from her friends who got it from her. Isk isk. This time I decided that drastic times call for drastic measures !

I sought help from the Lice Ninja.
Lice Ninja was a saviour.
Both Khayla and I went for a treatment in their outlet in Subang and within 30 minutes all the lice and nits were gone !

Khayla's New Hairdo

Lice Ninja personnel applying lice cream on Khayla’s hair.

head lice

:)

I felt like a new person.
Haha.

Anyway that was it and when I thought our lice nightmare was gone, her nursery teacher dropped the bomb on us again. Drama, much ?

But this time around it was not as bad as the first and second episodes so it didn’t take a lot of combing to get the lice & nits out.

So while I was combing her hair with the lice comb (you would not believe that this happened the same morning Daddy was warded), I asked her whether I could cut her hair. At first she said no because she wanted long hair like Elsa’s. The problem with her keeping her hair long is she doesn’t like it being tied up, so it always looks messy. And with the head lice issue, long hair makes it a bit of a challenge to comb.

After I personally attempted to cut her hair, I realized that it was not as easy as I thought and I am so cut out to be a hairdresser. One side of her hair was shorter than the other but since we were rushing to go to the hospital, I let my daughter run free with the ugly hair cut I gave her. Isk isk.

A week after that, I brought her to a hair saloon to get her hair fixed. Hehe.

Khayla’s first hair cut at a saloon ! Hehe.

head lice

Alhamdulillah she was well behaved through the whole process. :)

Check out Khayla’s new hairdo ! Hehe.

Head lice

From now onwards, I am planning to apply the lice cream on Khayla’s hair 2-3 times a week. Better to be safe than sorry, kan ?

Why Shaklee Vitamin C

Now that we know the benefits & importance of vitamin C, I am here to share with you why I choose Shaklee Vitamin C and not other brands.

Firstly, of course because it is naturally derived from corn and the molecule of the vitamin c is exactly the same as of a citrus fruit.

Secondly, taking 1 tablet of Shaklee Vitamin C is equivalent to eating 7 1/2 oranges !

shaklee vitamin cThirdly, and most importantly, Shaklee Vitamin C tablet has a sustained release formulation. Each tablet contains 500 mg and is designed to slowly release 100 mg into your body every hour over a 5 hour period. Our body cannot absorb a huge amount of vitamin c at once, so with the sustained release technology, there is no wastage or excess of vitamin c.

Clinical studies show that the vitamin c from 2 tablets of Shaklee Sustained Release Vita C stays in our blood for 24 hours !

Fourthly, the latest formulation contains and additional 120 mg of complex bioflavonoids which help improve the absorption of vitamin c and prevents oxidation.

What an amazing product ! :)

I take 2 tablets a day to help improve my immunity and skin. However, it is sufficient to take only 1 tablet a day. 1 bottle of Sustained Release Vita C contains 180 tablets, so if you only take 1 tablet a day, it will last you for 6 whole months !

Even if you take 2 tablets like I do, 1 bottle will last you 3 months.
So worth it !

Now you know why there’s no changing my mind about my favourite vitamin C brand. :)

The Importance of Vitamin C

I am sure most of us already know the importance of vitamin C, kan ?

Well, I am here to elaborate on it anyway. Hehe.

Vitamin C is needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of our body. It is used to form an important protein used to make skin, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels, heal wounds and form scar tissue, repair and maintain cartilage, bones, and teeth.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is also one of many antioxidants. Antioxidants are nutrients that block some of the damage caused by free radicals.

Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants. Antioxidants are nutrients that block some of the damage caused by free radicals.

  • Free radicals are made when your body breaks down food or when you are exposed to tobacco smoke or radiation.
  • The buildup of free radicals over time is largely responsible for the aging process.
  • Free radicals may play a role in cancer, heart disease, and conditions like arthritis.

For many years, vitamin C has  been a popular remedy for the common cold.

Too little vitamin C can lead to signs and symptoms of deficiency, including:

  • Anemia
  • Bleeding gums
  • Decreased ability to fight infection
  • Decreased wound-healing rate
  • Dry and splitting hair
  • Easy bruising
  • Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums)
  • Nosebleeds
  • Possible weight gain because of slowed metabolism
  • Rough, dry, scaly skin
  • Swollen and painful joints
  • Weakened tooth enamel

A severe form of vitamin C deficiency is known as scurvy, which mainly affects older, malnourished adults.

However, our body is not able to make vitamin C on its own, and it does not store vitamin C. Therefore it is important to include plenty of vitamin C-containing foods in our daily diet. (Source)

My favourite vitamin C supplement is of course Shaklee’s Sustained Release Vita C !

Shaklee Vitamin C

It is a great source of all-natural vitamin C which is delivered hour after hour using a proprietary, all-natural delivery system that slowly releases vitamin C. :)

I will write on why Shaklee’s vitamin C is the best (in my opinion lah !) soon, ok ?
Until then, stay healthy everyone ! :)

Khayla’s First Week At An Islamic Montessori

It has been more than a week since Khayla started going to an Islamic Montessori.
Mr Sunshine and I agreed to take her out from the nursery she had been at prior to this because the Montessori is nearer to where we’re staying now plus we want her to learn & have exposure to classes in English.

The challenges I have faced over the first week is waking her up to bathe & get into her uniform. Before this, I could just send her to the nursery in her nighties, hehe.
Apart from that, I think she handled her first week at her new school like a champion.

Khayla's First Week

Khayla all dressed up in her uniform, not looking very happy on her first day. Hehe.

Khayla's First Week

Khayla’s first day, warming up by doing some colouring.

Mummy, on the other hand is not doing too well. Haha.
Why ?
Firstly, since she has started going to a Montessori which uses English as its medium, I am slowly trying to speak to her in English at home but I feel so bad when she says, “Mummy cakap English ke ? Cakaplah macam biasa, saya tak faham.”  :(

I’m all worked up because of course I blame myself for not using English at home since she was small and now I am worried that my 3-year old daughter will get all confused and stressed while trying to learn English. *nangis*

Am I being too emotional or paranoid ? Isk Isk.

Secondly, the other day she came back and told me, “Mummy, saya senyum kat kawan-kawan tapi takde siapa senyum kat saya.”
Ok Mummy nak nangis but tahan only. I comforted her by telling her to keep smiling at them and InshaAllah they will slowly learn to smile back. *nangis*

And then she also told me that she misses Ain, her best friend in her old nursery. :(

So sadddd…….

Thirdly (yes there’s more), Khayla is potty trained (she still wears diapers when she sleeps) and has learned to drink milk using a cup in her old nursery but at this new school they have ‘converted’ her back to the bottle.

I knowwww, I have no idea why I am so worked up over such petty things. I blame my hormones. Hehe.

Anywayyy, here are a couple of photos from Khayla’s last day at her nursery.

The Farewell Cake I ordered for Khayla’s teachers at the nursery.

Khayla's First Week

Khayla with her best friend, Ain. :(

Khayla's First Week

May Allah ease this transition.
May Allah protect my little Khayla.
May Allah ease her journey to learn new things and make new friends.

May Allah calm Mummy’s emotions.

Ameen Ya Rabb !
