The Battle of Head Lice and Khayla’s New Hairdo

4 weeks ago, I decided to chop Khayla’s hair off after her nursery teacher told me that she had head lice (again !).

Allow me to shed some light on our experience with head lice.

The first time we discovered Khayla had lice was after we got back from our Borneo Tour. What’s worse my head was infected too ! I noticed that she was scratching her head while we were in Karambunai, but I thought it was due to the chicken pox. I was also scratching my head, and I thought it was because I was using the hotel’s shampoo instead of my usual Prosante Shampoo. How blur can one be ? Isk isk.
When we found out from her nursery teacher that she had lice, then it all made sense. Haha.

Managed to settle that episode with lots of head lice shampoo, Basic H and lots of combing. Note: Never use those plastic combs which come with the lice shampoo. They’re useless !

And the Khayla came home with lice again two weeks after that. I guess she got it from her friends who got it from her. Isk isk. This time I decided that drastic times call for drastic measures !

I sought help from the Lice Ninja.
Lice Ninja was a saviour.
Both Khayla and I went for a treatment in their outlet in Subang and within 30 minutes all the lice and nits were gone !

🙂

I felt like a new person.
Haha.

Anyway that was it and when I thought our lice nightmare was gone, her nursery teacher dropped the bomb on us again. Drama, much ?

But this time around it was not as bad as the first and second episodes so it didn’t take a lot of combing to get the lice & nits out.

So while I was combing her hair with the lice comb (you would not believe that this happened the same morning Daddy was warded), I asked her whether I could cut her hair. At first she said no because she wanted long hair like Elsa’s. The problem with her keeping her hair long is she doesn’t like it being tied up, so it always looks messy. And with the head lice issue, long hair makes it a bit of a challenge to comb.

After I personally attempted to cut her hair, I realized that it was not as easy as I thought and I am so cut out to be a hairdresser. One side of her hair was shorter than the other but since we were rushing to go to the hospital, I let my daughter run free with the ugly hair cut I gave her. Isk isk.

A week after that, I brought her to a hair saloon to get her hair fixed. Hehe.

Alhamdulillah she was well behaved through the whole process. 🙂

Check out Khayla’s new hairdo ! Hehe.

From now onwards, I am planning to apply the lice cream on Khayla’s hair 2-3 times a week. Better to be safe than sorry, kan ?

Khayla’s First Week At An Islamic Montessori

It has been more than a week since Khayla started going to an Islamic Montessori.
Mr Sunshine and I agreed to take her out from the nursery she had been at prior to this because the Montessori is nearer to where we’re staying now plus we want her to learn & have exposure to classes in English.

The challenges I have faced over the first week is waking her up to bathe & get into her uniform. Before this, I could just send her to the nursery in her nighties, hehe.
Apart from that, I think she handled her first week at her new school like a champion.

Khayla's First Week
Khayla all dressed up in her uniform, not looking very happy on her first day. Hehe.
Khayla's First Week
Khayla’s first day, warming up by doing some colouring.

Mummy, on the other hand is not doing too well. Haha.
Why ?
Firstly, since she has started going to a Montessori which uses English as its medium, I am slowly trying to speak to her in English at home but I feel so bad when she says, “Mummy cakap English ke ? Cakaplah macam biasa, saya tak faham.”  🙁

I’m all worked up because of course I blame myself for not using English at home since she was small and now I am worried that my 3-year old daughter will get all confused and stressed while trying to learn English. *nangis*

Am I being too emotional or paranoid ? Isk Isk.

Secondly, the other day she came back and told me, “Mummy, saya senyum kat kawan-kawan tapi takde siapa senyum kat saya.”
Ok Mummy nak nangis but tahan only. I comforted her by telling her to keep smiling at them and InshaAllah they will slowly learn to smile back. *nangis*

And then she also told me that she misses Ain, her best friend in her old nursery. 🙁

So sadddd…….

Thirdly (yes there’s more), Khayla is potty trained (she still wears diapers when she sleeps) and has learned to drink milk using a cup in her old nursery but at this new school they have ‘converted’ her back to the bottle.

I knowwww, I have no idea why I am so worked up over such petty things. I blame my hormones. Hehe.

Anywayyy, here are a couple of photos from Khayla’s last day at her nursery.

May Allah ease this transition.
May Allah protect my little Khayla.
May Allah ease her journey to learn new things and make new friends.

May Allah calm Mummy’s emotions.

Ameen Ya Rabb !

Updates !

Assalamu’alaikum lovelies !
Hi. 🙂

How is everyone doing ?
I can’t believe that it’s already 16th Ramadhan 1435H.
Are we satisfied with what we have done for the past 16 days ? Have we satisfied Allah ?

Alhamdulillah, Khayla turned 3 last Friday according to the Hijrah calendar (13 Ramadhan), but her actual birth date is 13th August 2014, so we’re waiting until next month to get a cake. I am thinking of a Frozen themed one, because she’s Anna and I am Elsa (and Ayah is Olaf ‘gemuk’, tsk tsk), ya know ? Hehe.

Any suggestions on where I can get it from ?
20140706_152331
Oh boy, I can’t believe she’s 3 !
She is sooooo talkative. Mr. Sunshine claims she got that trait from me, pfffftt. :-p

I have been sending her to a nursery since April this year.
Which means she is no longer being taken care of by the babysitter in front of our house because she would cry every single morning when I dropped her off. It was torturous to see her like that every morning. I would sometimes cry all the way to work too ! Tsk tsk.

But Alhamdulillah, she does not cry in the mornings anymore. Well, there are the occasional emo sessions but it is a whole lot better than crying EVERY DAY.
She is learning quite a lot from the nursery. New songs, new doas, new words. Most of them are in Malay lah. She knows the doa makan & meaning, doa tidur & meaning, doa selepas makan, ayat Kursi and she loves to berzikir. She insists that I play my zikir CD in the car every day. Alhamdulillah.

My only worry is that she not speaking English. Yes she does know some English words, but 80% of her vocabulary is in Malay. I am not trying to say that English is more superior than Malay, but I grew up speaking English at home so it’s only natural that I would want her to be able to speak in English too. The Malay language is not an issue, because it’s our mother tongue, pasti boleh cakap melayu punya. 🙂
Is it too late to get her to learn English ?
I would appreciate any tips. 🙂

I wanted to blog about my new workplace but I think I have written too much already hehe.
I guess I’ll save that for another post. 🙂

Until then, bye !

of dian khayla turning two & our 2013 eid celebrations

Well, hello there everyone !
Assamu’alaikum !
Selamat Hari Raya ! Still valid lah I guess since today is the last day of Syawal, teehee. 🙂

This is going to be a looooong post so bear with me ok ? 🙂

On the 13th of August, 2 years ago, after 21 hours of labour (yes, you can click here to relive my birthing experience, hee), this precious gem was born !

Happy 2nd Birthday my Beautiful Light !

Thank you Allah. 🙂

Dearest DK, Mummy loves you so so so so much & I cannot imagine life without you and your incessant chatter.
I pray that you grow up to be bright and the best in this world & the hereafter. May you be blessed with all the pretty, happy & wonderful things you deserve. Aameen.

Loadsa love, hugs & sloppy kisses from your Mummy ! :’)

Mr. Sunshine and I planned a birthday celebration for Khayla at Burger King, Extreme Park, Shah Alam on the August 25th. We invited family, some relatives friends who lived nearby.
I ordered a Barney themed birthday cake & Mr. Sunshine hired ‘Barney’ to entertain the kids.

The Barney we hired turned out to be skinny and looked pretty different (haha) from the real Barney, so Khayla wasn’t really pleased. In fact, she was terrified ! Haha.

The birthday cake from Jasmeen Home Delights

THE BIRTHDAY GIRL, WOOT WOOT !

Cake cutting session. 🙂

Told ya she was terrified of this version of Barney. Poor baby ! Hehe.
I even had to distract her with a toy to take a picture with Barney.
Us, sans Fahim who was asleep. Hehe. I look so tired !

Arina & pretty Ayra !

With my BFF Annisa and Lene.

The in-laws 🙂

The extended family ! 🙂

The friends ! 🙂

Mak & Abah who came all the way from Batu Pahat. :’)

Disclaimer: No carbonated drinks were served at the party. Hehe.

Alhamdulillah, the party went smoothly. Khayla would like to thank everyone for their presence & presents ! 🙂

Now moving on to our Raya celebrations this year, as I mentioned in my previous post, we spent Raya eve and the first two days of Syawal in Gombak this year.
Daddy bought beef rendang from Aunty Leha and I made some peanut sauce, chicken curry (as per Mr Sunshine’s request) & boiled some nasi himpit. 🙂

I had a makeup malfunction on the first day of Syawal. I realized I bought the wrong eyeliner because this one made me look like I have black eyes. Blergh. And because I didn’t bring my makeup remover, I had to deal with fugly eyes the whole day !

Selamat Hari Raya ya’ll ! 🙂

We went to arwah Mummy’s close friend, Aunty Zainah’s place in the morning. When I was small, I used to think that this was our kampung. Yes, that’s how long we’ve known Aunty Zainah ! :”)

Sunshine ! 🙂

Seth Fahim wore a baju melayu along with a sampin, super cute tau !

The future dentist and I.

The only photo we took at Aunty Leha’s place was of Khayla and her cousins, hehe.

At Aunty Maziey’s. Just like the good old days. 🙂

With Sal on the second day of Syawal before leaving for Batu Pahat. 🙂

Beraya in Batu Pahat in purple. 🙂

With the in-laws. 🙂
This was on the 5th of Syawal before going to Akey’s house. 🙂

My bestie of 15 years with her daughter Qaireen Alisha. 🙂
Last stop the day before I go back to work – Mak Andak’s. 🙂

There’s gonna be a huge change in our lives, soon InshaAllah. No, Khayla is not getting a sibling, YET. I’ll blog about it soon.  Ok ok, I’LL TRY to blog about it soon. Don’t be mad if I blog about it 6 months after it happens, haha.

I hope all of you had a splendid Raya ! 🙂

13 Ramadhan 1434H

OH MY, I MISS YOU BLOGOSPHERE !

Hello all !
Today is the 13th of Ramadhan, Alhamdulillah.
And according to Islamic calendar, darling Dian Khayla is TWO !

Alhamdulillah, thank you Allah for this precious gem !

Khayla is one hell of a chatterbox and Mr. Sunshine says she got it from me, haha.
She can form short sentences and can even say, “Jap eh !”, when I call her. Hehe.
She knows how to say, “Owi,” (sorry) when she’s done something wrong.
She can follow instructions pretty well, Alhamdulillah.
Loves watching Barney and Upin & Ipin !
She is definitely a handful (Alhamdulillah), there is no such thing as shopping when we’re out and about with her, it always turns into a chasing-Khayla-around outing. Hehe.
And she can throw quite a major temper tantrum by hitting Mr Sunshine and I (sobss) and/or throwing stuff around when she’s cranky or isn’t happy. I hope this is just a phase. Ameen.
She still needs a bit of time to warm up to people she isn’t familiar with.

I’m happy that she knows how an “A-Qu-an” (Al-Qur’an) looks like and she loves to imitate the way we read the Qur’an by flipping through the pages and mumbling. I’m happy she wants to put on the telekung and pretend to pray (although her rukuk is a squat, hehe).
I hope and pray she becomes a good Muslim, Ameen.

Dearest Dian Khayla, I can’t believe you’re TWO already, darling, Mummy and Ayah love you more than you know ! Forgive us for being far from perfect parents, but we’re trying our very best ! You’re still the reason I can’t wait to get home everyday. Happy birthday sayang ! :’)

between getting old and old memories.

Okayyyy it’s about time for an update !
*blows dust off blog*

I’m so sorry for abandoning this space for more than two months ! I wonder if anyone still reads my blog ? Anyone ? Hello ?

*crickets sounds*

These days I always fall asleep earlier than I intend to every night. I usually doze off while putting Khayla to bed, not because I am exhausted or tired but because our bed has become just too comfy since Mr. Sunshine brought our portable air cond from Gombak to Shah Alam. *blushes*
As much as I want to stay up, I just succumb to the cool breeze and comfy mattress, sometimes even BEFORE Khayla dozes off. Haha. So that’s why I have so little to no time to blog. 🙂

Before I start rambling away, this a personal message to Mel Ng, haha.
Mel ! You can connect with me on Instagram (melissaraffur) and Facebook (Melissa Raffur). 😀

Anywayyy, life hasn’t changed so much since I last wrote.
Khayla is officially off the pacifier. Alhamdulillah. I feel that her pacifier has played a role in her frequent fever/flu all this while.

I turned 29 last month. Happy birthday to me ! Do I feel old ? Nope. Haha, with the exception of my osteoarthritic knees, I think I’m doing okayy for a 29-year old. Do I look old ? Haha that’s for you to judge lah. :p

Marc treated me (along with the rest of the family) to some Seoul Garden. Yums ! I was down with stomach poisoning that weekend, but it didn’t stop me from gobbling down all the delicious food.

The sister in-law treated me to some Fullhouse. 🙂

Annisa darling took me to Baci, Citta Mall. 🙂

Mr. Sunshine brought me out on a date to watch Iron Man 3, wheee !

Awww, I feel so blessed. Alhamdulillah. 🙂

I just got back from a getaway to Cherating last weekend with my family (Daddy, Marc, Marlene, Linn & Fahim included !). Cherating brings back a lot sweet memories when arwah Mummy was still around, so it was good to be able to go back there and reminisce.

Khayla and I at our favourite Hai Peng Kopitiam.

Before leaving our Antara Suite at Holiday Villa, Cherating.

You can view the rest of the photos on Instagram. 🙂

Ok gotta get back to playing the Fishing Game with Khayla.
What Fishing Game ?

THIS ONE !

Hahahaha. Khayla loves to catch the ‘pish’ and ‘atak’ (masak) them for me.

Ok bye.

pacify me.

Last night was the forth night Khayla slept throughout the night without her soother. Syukur Alhamdulillah.
We stopped giving her the pacifier during the day since December last year but she still needed to suck on it in order to go to bed at night.
I have been thinking of ways to wean her off (her pacifier), because she is the type who would wake up in the middle of the night and cry for her pacifier.

This was the time Khayla was busy scrunching up a wedding card, but immediately dozed off once her pacifier was in her mouth. :p

On Friday night, Khayla had trouble going to bed and staying asleep as she was in pain from her two molars cutting through her gums. Poor baby couldn’t even drink water without screaming. All three of us had very little sleep that night.

Mr Sunshine and I had already planned to go to Port Dickson that following Saturday so we thought hard on whether we should carry on with the plan since all three of us are exhausted and Khayla was in pain. We decided to go.
Mr. Sunshine bought a tube of teething gel from a nearby pharmacy just in case.
We brought along a thick comforter just in case the hotel didn’t provide a baby cot in which they did but I thought the mattress was too hard and was a tad too small for the cot, so we decided to let Khayla sleep on the comforter.
The funny thing is, as soon as I laid the comforter on the hotel room carpet, Khayla started rolling around on it as if she knew it was her ‘bed’, hehe. Syukur Alhamdulillah, after a few minutes of rolling around on the comforter, she dozed off on her own, without her pacifier !
She stayed asleep throughout the night too ! I guess she loved the air conditioned room. 🙂

I hid her pacifier again the following night. And Alhamdulillah she slept on her own throughout the night again. 😀
Khayla was cranky throughout the whole trip but she was manageable. 🙂
I am glad I didn’t have to use the teething gel.

I did the same when we got back to Shah Alam. Khayla did wake up crying but it was because she was feeling hot (she was all sweaty). Amboi baru tidur two nights in a hotel room dah tak boleh tidur bawah kipas ! Hehe. Fortunately she didn’t need her pacifier to go back to sleep. 🙂

Syukur Alhamdulillah.
I really hope this continues and that I can throw out her soother soon !

Next mission is to pierce her ears ! InshaAllah.

baby talk #3

I would usually count in front of Khayla when I am preparing her milk or buttoning up her blouses. Two nights ago while I was getting her dressed, this happened:

While buttoning up her blouse,
Me: One…
Khayla : Tuuu..
Me: *gasps* Threeee..
Khayla: Porrr..
Me: *screams and runs out of the room to tell Mr. Sunshine* – Yes, I can still be a drama queen.

MashaAllah, mashaAllah.
Alhamdulillah, thank you Allah for this beautiful blessing. 🙂

dian khayla – 15 months progress report

Dian Khayla is now a healthy 15 month-old toddler, Alhamdulillah.
It amazes me how fast toddlers at this age absorb and imitate what they see around them. MashaAllah.

  • These days, she is starting to be a pro at throwing temper tantrums. Whenever things don’t go her way, she would hit me, slap my face, bite me (!) and/or scream at the top of her lungs. Isk isk. I try my best not to lose my cool with her, while praying hard that this tantrum phase will fade away soon. She doesn’t act like that with her Ayah, I guess she knows he can be strict. Hehe.
  • She says, “nak” or “tu” (while pointing to something) when she wants something.
  • She would take the house keys, go to the door and makes gestures as if she’s trying to open it.
  • She insists on feeding herself, meal times are messy times.

  • She LOVES Upin & Ipin. I let her watch both the English and Malay version. Don’t judge !
  • Her newly developed ‘skill’ – spinning around and around while standing AND walking backwards. Hehe.
  • She wants to eat EVERYTHING we eat.
  • She would wave her index finger and says, “Nooo” to us when she knows she’s doing something wrong. Haha.
  • Would sometimes take any piece of cloth, (ie. blanket, her blouse) and wipes the floor or any hard surface with it. Rajinnya anak Mummy. Hehe.

  • She rearranges our dining table chairs for us. Heck, the whole house gets a makeover these days. T___________T
  • She would pick up the house phone and says, “Ohh?”.I think she means ‘hello’. Hehe. She even knows what to press on my phone so that it lights up, then she’ll put it to her ear and says, “Ohh?”. Hehe.
  • Sometimes if she’s done doing her ‘business’, she would come over to us, lift up her blouse, and says, “Yakk.” Hahahaha.
  • On good days, she would hold out her arms and legs to help me dress her. On not-so-good days, I would have to chase her all around the room just to get her diaper on.
  • Finally calls me, ‘Mi’ or ‘Aaami’. But I am also ‘Ayah’ and ‘Eyyy !’. T_________T
  • Other words she’s forming are ‘Nenek’, ‘Bik’ (Ambil), ‘Ayoo’ (Fuyoo), Bird, Cat. Those are the ones I can remember. She makes a roaring sound when I say ‘lion’, which is something I taught, hehehe.

Can you believe how big my little girl is now ? She’s growing up too fast ! Isk.

transitions.

And so it has been a week since we officially moved in to the not-so-new pad we’re renting in Shah Alam.
House is still incomplete & messy. (read: not ready for visitors.)
Khayla isn’t having such a easy time with the new sitter.
Traveling time to and fro work is around 30 minutes. As usual, the nearer you stay, the later you arrive at work. In my case, the sitter feels that 0730 hours is the best time to drop Khayla off, so I can only leave for work after that.

My in-laws are planning to come over during the Awal Muharam public holiday, InshaAllah. Mum in-law & Angah are planning to go to IKEA to hunt for stuff for Angah’s wedding. I think it would be a great idea because I can look for stuff for my house too. Hehe. And have some IKEA meatballs while I’m at it !

Last Sunday before we moved in, we went to Serai in Empire to celebrate Daddy & Mr. Sunshine’s belated birthdays. I can’t remember whether I’ve wrote about this but they share the same birth date ! Awesome tak ? Hehe.

I have no idea why I posed bongkok like that.

Birthday Man No. 1 !

Birthday Man No. 1 with his granddaughter.

(Hot) Birthday Man No. 2 !

Soon to be parents, InshaAllah. Khayla is going to have a younger cousin she can bully play with !

LOVE !

A new year is around the corner, let’s take this time to reflect on how we are and how we can change for the better. InshaAllah.
