Under The Coconut Shell

Hi. Hello. Assalamu’alaikum.

Yeah, yeah I know, it has been centuries since I last blogged.
It’s a good thing I still remember my password. Hehe.
I just got to approving some pending comments, will get to replying them, I am so sorry for not noticing your comments especially those who asked for the ibadah schedule from this 2015 post of mine ! InshaAllah I will find time to forward the schedule to you sisters. :)

Anywayyyy, it’s 2017 ! It’s March of 2017 already !
Since my last post, I have started working in a new place (well, actually I started working there in June last year), Khayla turned five last year, Khaleel turned one last November, Mr. Sunshine is a few months away from completing his masters (ameen !), and I am 2 kilos away from my pre-pregnancy weight. Alhamdulillah.

Work has been hectic, stress-free stressful, but good, Alhamdulillah. I am grateful to have the opportunity to learn so many new things where I am now.

Khayla is going to enter primary school next year, InshaAllah. Can you believe it !?
I feel like I just wrote about her birth yesterday. She is still my baby girllll ! :(
Alhamdulillah she is doing well in her kindergarten, however she can be pretty talkative (I wonder who she takes after *rolls eyes*) which can get her into trouble sometimes. Hehe.

Khaleel started walking at 11 months, Alhamdulillah. He was fully breastfed until he was 1 year, and then I started supplementing with formula at the sitter’s. He still breastfeeds when he is at home. I’m planning to write a separate post on that. Oh Allah, please allow me to have time & inspiration to write that post within this year ! Ameen, haha.
There are times I feel like I am being unfair with Khaleel as when I had Khayla, I wrote a number of posts about her monthly milestones. But it didn’t happen with Khaleel.

Khaleel, when you read this, it’s not because Mummy loves you less, it’s because Mummy was busy nursing you and when Mummy wasn’t nursing you, Mummy was at work pumping milk for you. Hah !

Hehe.

So much has happened over the past year, it’s challenging to cram them all up in one post. And I won’t.

As I am writing this, I am thinking of going on a 7-day detox with Mr. Sunshine. We thought of starting tomorrow but we did not go grocery shopping today, plus I have a meeting on Tuesday which means there will be food and there might be a farewell party at the office which means there will be more food, so yeah.

Excuses, excuses. Haha.

I shall update if we ever go on that detox thingy.

See y’all in my next post next year !
Bye !

Sayf Khaleel – 8 Months Progress Report & Raya Updates

Assalamu’alaikum. Hellloouuu !
Selamat Hari Rayaaaaa !
I know am 2 weeks overdue but hey better late than never, huh ? Hee.

I hope your Ramadhan & Syawal has been splendid. :)
I was really nervous about fasting this year as I was still exclusively breastfeeding Khaleel. I was worried about my milk supply dipping and I did not know whether I could be able to go without eating during the day. But, Alhamdulillah, with Allah’s permission I managed to fast & breastfeed Khaleel throughout Ramadhan.
Before I knew it, we were already nearing Syawal !

First things first, Raya updates. :)

This year Khaleel celebrated his first Syawal, our first as a family of four, Alhamdulillah.
We were in Batu Pahat on the first day of Raya, and Mr. Sunshine’s family chose peach as our theme colour this year. :)

Raya Updates

With my in-laws. :)

Mak (my MIL) decided to scratch rendang out of the Raya menu this year, so we had ayam ungkep (a Javanese dish), beef satay etc. As usual, after Raya prayers, we asked for forgiveness from everyone, and started to go beraya to a few of Mr. Sunshine’s uncles & aunts houses.

On the second day of Raya, we drove back to Gombak. My mission was to look for rendang ! Hehe.
Found my rendang at Aunty Maziey’s ! We managed to beraya at Akey’s house and a couple of my relatives houses as well. :)

Raya Updates 2

One with cousins at Aunty Maziey’s. :)

Raya updates

Another one with my uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews & nieces at Abang Jai’s. :)

Well, enough on Raya updates, I shall move on to share about Khaleel’s update for the past 5 months.
Whoa, I haven’t blogged for 5  months ! Hahaha.
I feel so bad because I used to blog on Khayla’s updates pretty frequently when she was a baby. :(

Anyway, here goes..

4 months progress

Khaleel started to roll over both directions. The first thing he would do when he woke up was roll over, so we would always put pillows around him as barriers. He could grasp toys or things pretty well.
Had his first episode of diarrhea for about 5 days, and then started developing rashes all over his body. Brought him to a paediatrician which confirmed it was viral exanthem.

Sayf Khaleel 8 months update

Sayf Khaleel 8 months update 3

5 months progress

He recognizes when we call his name. He slowly started to crawl at 5.5 months. Had his first swim in a pool at Port Dickson. Hehe. He adores his sister, and gets easily amused by almost anything Khayla does. Hehe.

avillion port dickson

Khayla & Khaleel having a swim ! Hehe.

6 months progress

Started on solids at 6.5 months, has been eating quite well everyday. He started to be able to sit down without support.

7 months progress

He successfully learned how to get into a sitting position by pushing up from his stomach. He jabbers a lot. Hehe. His favourite thing to do is stand while holding on to something, and he started being able to pull himself up from sitting to standing.

Sayf Khaleel 8 months update 2

Khaleel trying to give me a heart attack by showing off that he can stand with only one hand supported. -_____-

8 months progress

Expresses his feelings by screaming, no actual words yet, still jabbers a lot. Starting to get very attached to me, sometimes to the extent of not wanting to go to his Ayah.
Alhamdulillah, so far he is still fully breastfed while on solids. I reallllyyy pray and hope I can breastfeed him until at least 1 year. Ameen !

I have been sending him to a babysitter for 5 months now and Alhamdulillah, so far so good. May Allah protect him at all times. May Allah make it easy for the babysitter to take care of him. Ameen ameen.

I hope I have covered all his milestones, until my next post, bye ! :)

Sayf Khaleel – 3 months Progress Report

Alhamdulillah all praises to Allah, little Sayf is now almost 3 and a half months. :)

He still takes short naps during the day and goes to bed at about 9 to 10-ish at night. His first sleep period would be around 3-4 hours, wakes up for his feed (he usually just fusses around with his eyes closed, waiting for his milk to be serve, hehe) and after that he goes back to sleep and wakes up on roughly an hourly basis.

He gets very excited when his Ayah holds him and play with him, and when he is with me, he ‘talks’ a lot. I guess he knows his parents very well already. Hehe. He is not stingy with his smiles and laughs and loves it when we play peek-a-boo with him :)

His latest achievement once he hit 3 months was rolling over ! He perfected his roll within a week by rolling from lying on his back to his tummy. So far, he prefers rolling to his left side, and I am trying to coax him to foll the over on the other side as well.

While this new skill of his is awesome, it is also a sign that Mr. Sunshine and I (or whoever is around him) should be extra careful. He nearly rolled off his mattress yesterday !

Sayf khaleel 3 months

Sikit lagi nak tergolek atas lantai tau !

He poops a lot, haha, but is spitting up much lesser these days. He would occasionally suck on his index finger or thumb to soothe himself.

This week, we are currently desperately looking for a babysitter for Khaleel. Please pray we everything goes smoothly for us. Thanks ! :)

Sayf Khaleel – 2 Months Progress Report

Hi all !
Assalamu’alaikum.

I guess this blog’s getting a bit dusty these days huh ?
Hehe. Apologies !
I am still trying to adapt to having another baby in the house. Hee.

Khaleel is now a little over 2 months, Alhamdulillah.
He weighed 4.9kgs at his 2 months check up. Alhamdulillah.
Although he is not as semangat (heavy/big – old folks say it’s better to say semangat rather than heavy, no idea why haha) as Khayla was before, but as long as he is thriving, I am grateful !

He started lifting his head when he was about a week plus, and now he can lift his head up better for short periods. He even likes to lift his head up while he’s lying on his back.

We’re getting a lot of gurgling, cooing, ooohs and aaahhhs from him these day. He smiles and laughs at us too. *heart melts*
He loves his bath time, and is pretty calm during changing time as well. He spits up a lot, sometimes to the extent of vomiting. Iskk.
During the day he takes short naps (about 15 to 30 minutes) and sleeps longer (about 3-4 hours) at night.
Alhamdulillah, so far I can say that he is a pretty calm baby.
Thank you Allah, it is YOU who takes care of him, thank you !

khaleel 2 months

Khayla loves her brother so much that she loves to squeeze his cheeks, head, tummy etc. Most of the time Khaleel would cry from the ‘aggressive affection’ his sister showers him with. Haha.

As for Mummy, I am still on leave, yay !
It’s
But time sure flies so fast when you’re having a good time.

I’ve got so many things to blog about, lemme just organize my thoughts first then jot them down, ok ?

Until my next post, thanks for reading and bye !

Of Trials

The first 14 days of confinement were not a bed of roses for me.
And it has nothing to do with the confinement ‘rules’.
Allow me to share on what happened…

Scenario 1:

The day after Khaleel’s birth, I received a call from Umra, telling me that their paediatrician has something to discuss with me. Mr. Sunshine and I brought Khaleel along to Umra that evening.
The paediatrician told us that they just got the results for the vaginal swab for group B streptococcus (GBS) they did on me the first time I came to Umra the previous Wednesday. It was positive.

You see, being a GBS carrier is perfectly normal and natural as it is found as part of the normal gut flora in 20-30% of men and women, and the vagina in roughly 1 in 4 women.
So, it does not carry any health risk to the carrier, which in this case is myself.

However, a baby delivered via a vaginal delivery has a risk to develop a GBS infection.

The paediatrician wanted to admit Khaleel and start him on intravenous gentamicin & benzylpenicillin.
You can imagine how shocked both Mr Sunshine and I were.

We were not keen about starting our 2 day-old baby on antibiotics unnecessarily, so we asked for some time to think about it. He gave us 10 minutes. We could not make a decision that quick, so we signed the at-own-risk (AOR) discharge slip and brought Khaleel home.

We called a couple of friends who were doctors and asked for their opinions and decided to get a second opinion that night itself, from PPUM.

With tears streaming down my cheeks, I packed my bags just in case Khaleel had to be admitted.

We arrived at PPUM close to midnight that day.
The medical officer at PPUM told us that he thinks Khaleel is fine as it has already been 40 hours since his birth, however he did a blood test just to be sure.
We waited until after 0200 hours for the results, and Alhamdulillah they were normal. We reached home almost 0400 hours that morning.

Yes, I went through all the above with my sore perineum, 40 hours after delivering my baby. *nangis*

Scenario 2:

On Monday, November 23rd, Khayla woke up with a fever and she was coughing really bad. I told Mr Sunshine to bring her to her paediatrician in DEMC to get her checked.

That afternoon, Mr Sunshine called me from the hospital to tell me that Khayla needed to be admitted. She was down with acute bronchitis.

I immediately broke down.
My confinement lady, Kak Anda tried to console me and told me that it was not good to cry that much during confinement.
I could not control my emotions.
My heart broke thinking about Khayla and Mr. Sunshine who had to skip classes to stay with Khayla in the hospital.

Khayla was admitted that day, and I was at home with Khaleel and Kak Anda.
I was so exhausted from not being able to take a nap during the day and from all the crying I did.
Khaleel slept with Kak Anda that night. *nangis*
I was fortunate that I had expressed breastmilk stored in the refrigerator.

That night, I cried myself to sleep.

Alhamdulillah, Khayla was discharged last Friday.
Mr Sunshine skipped 3 days of classes last week. Poor him.
I spent 4 nights (crying every now and then because I missed Mr. Sunshine and Khayla) at home with Khaleel and Kak Anda.

Now, how’s that for drama ?
Hehe.

But Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear, kan ?

Goodnight ! :)

Khayla after 10 months at an Islamic Montessori

Alhamdulillah it has been 10 months since Khayla started attending an Islamic Montessori. Click here to read my previous update on this. :)

So, apart from her so-called toddler regression (which is under control now that Mr. Sunshine is sending her to school), I can say that she has been doing pretty good at school.

She tries to speak in English, and would sometimes ‘order’ me to do so too if I ask her to pass me something. “Saya tak nak bagi if Mummy tak cakap English and cakap ‘please’.”
Pffft, over tau ! Hehe.

She is trying to form more complex sentences and usually direct translates from Malay, like for example, “I want to go shop eat.”
I will praise her for trying but at the same time correct her. :)

She has also started to learn to read in English.
She is currently on book 3 of the Ladybird Read With Me series. Hers is the Tom and Kate version, I used to read about Peter and Jane when I was small. Ahh, the memories !

We try to read to her before she goes to bed every night.

islamic montessori

The Read with Me series which Khayla has been reading.

Alhamdulillah.

There are also swimming classes which Khayla attends once a week but I think she’s having mixed feelings about them. Two weeks ago, she actually told her teacher that her head hurts so she can’t swim.
(Of course Mr. Sunshine and I have reminded her that it is not good to pretend to be in pain for any reason at all.)

Lately, she has been showing interest in solat. She would keep telling me that she “nak solat,” and keeps asking me if it’s time to pray already. She memorizes the basics that need to be recited during prayers because she has learnt in at school during her Solat Dhuha sessions. She obviously has lots to pick up but she’s only four, so inshaAllah, in due time. :)

Khayla and her classmates are currently busy preparing for their annual school concert day next month. How exciting !! Looking forward to attend it (before or after I pop ! haha), InshaAllah.

Mr Sunshine and I have already paid the booking fee for next year’s session at the same kindergarten, so that just goes to show that we are satisfied with Khayla’s progress ! Yayyyyy ! Alhamdulillah. :)

Toddler Regression During Pregnancy

Before I go on, I just want to state that I am fully aware that Khayla is no longer a toddler. Hehe.

Since early last month (specifically after we went for the 3D scan), Khayla has been crying on and off at school especially when I drop her off in the mornings. She would hold on to me and cry, “Nak Mummy, nak Mummy !”.

Last week, she even ran out from her class to the gate as I was reversing my car to leave the school area. It took me about 15 minutes to console her. *nangis*

Her teacher and bibik have asked me whether anything had happened prior to her crying episodes but I reassured them that all is well at home. According to the bibik, there was one time she kept on sobbing until even when they performed solat Dhuha. *nangis*

Please bear in mind that this is all happening after 7 months of going to her montessori with no problems at all !
So I do not think it’s separation anxiety anymore.

Last Friday, Mr Sunshine decided that starting this week, he will be the one to send Khayla to school because dealing with her being emotional in the mornings affect my emotions too. Sedih Mummy tauuu.

But, yesterday morning I kissed her goodbye while she was still asleep, and to my surprise she immediately woke up and started crying, “Nak Mummy, nak Mummy,” again !
Even when I told her Ayah is around and that he will send her to school, she kept on crying and was clinging to me until our front door. *nangis*

People have been telling me that she is acting this way because I am pregnant and that it’s normal. I tried googling my problem up and came across a few articles which I think answers my queries.

So, apparently Khayla might be going through what they call toddler regression, and in her case it might be toddler regression during pregnancy.

Toddler regression is when your toddler starts acting like a baby, or extra clingy after months of independence.

According to Natasha Burgert (MD, FAAP, pediatrician at Pediatrics Associates in Kansas City, Missouri),

“You’ve done such a great job of creating a natural, healthy attachment with your older child that he’s feeling a bit ‘off’ due to the change in routine related to your pregnancy. Kids notice changes in the attention they’re provided. Toddlers regress in their behavior because they’re seeking normalcy. They’re trying to tell you to make sure that they get the attention they’ve been so used to getting.” (Source)

According to the What To Expect website, a toddler’s regression to babyhood (a time when he felt secure and close to you) may be caused by a number of factors:

  • It might be due to conflicting feelings about growing up (poor kids, so young and have to go through conflict !)
  • He may be feeling frustrated or overwhelmed by a developmental milestone
  • Reaction to a change or a stressful situation in his life, such as the arrival of a new sibling, starting preschool, or tension at home.

I spoke to Khayla’s principal last Friday evening, and even she mentioned that sometimes even though we might not think that our routine has changed but kids can notice even minute changes such as us being more tired than usual.

A couple of useful tips on how to handle toddler regression during pregnancy:

  1. Go ahead and baby your child. Let him cling, suck his thumb, or drink from a bottle (but fill it only with water). Not letting him slide back will only increase his desire to revert to babyhood and may prolong the phase. (Source)
  2. Heap on the love. Show him that he doesn’t have to act like a baby to get your attention. (Source)
  3. Doing your best to keep up your toddler’s routine — while taking care of yourself — is that best way to handle toddler regression. If you’re not up for a game of hide-and-seek. Do something else together. Read a book or play with cars or dolls. Keep in mind that a certain amount of regression during toddlerhood is completely normal, even if you weren’t expecting baby #2. (Source)

Any mothers out there who have experienced the same situation ?
I would appreciate your tips and advice.
Thank you in advance ! :)

A rocky start to 2015

Hello y’all !
Assalamu’alaikum. :)

We bid farewell to 2014 and said hi to 2015, and we’re already on the thirteenth day of the New Year ! Alhamdulillah.

2014 has been a trying year for us Malaysians, with the recent massive floods and planes crashing (or going missing).
2014 was a trying year for my family too, with Khayla being admitted twice to DEMC and me struggling to juggle between my new job, family time & time for Shaklee.

Hopefully 2015 will be much better for all of us. Ameen.

However, 2015 kicked off with Daddy being unwell. He was rushed to the Selayang Hospital on Friday, 2nd January by Marc & Marlene because he was weak and fell in the toilet.
The wards were full so he was observed in the emergency department for 18 hours !
He was finally admitted in the medical ward 9D on Saturday afternoon.

They initially said it was pneumonia, so they started him on antibiotics and he had to put on a face mask for oxygen supply as his percentage of oxygen saturation (SpO2) wasn’t too good.

DaddyCandy

Poor Daddy. :(

On Sunday, they started treating him as COAD, in view of his chronic smoking history and his symptoms were similar to asthma symptoms.
Daddy stopped smoking (cold turkey !) 15 years ago but prior to that he was smoking for more than 30 years.

Soo he was given bronchodilator nebuliser every 4 hours and started on an metered dose inhaler. Daddy said the nebuliser has helped him sleep better. Alhamdulillah.
He was finally discharged on Wednesday, 7th January.

Marc, Marlene, Mr. Sunshine and I took turns to keep Daddy company in the ward.
Marc and I fell sick along the way – fever, chills, body aches purging and loss of appetite !

So that was our rocky start to 2015, but it hasn’t wavered my spirits to move forward. Because, at the end of the day, everything happens for a reason. Allah knows best ! :)

My next post will be on my new year’s resolutions. Hehe.

Okbye.
Take care everyone, stay healthy ! :)

Our Raya 2014

So I am finally getting down to writing about our Aidilfitri celebration in the month of Zulkaedah. Hehe. Well, better late than never, kan ?

I wasn’t on a long leave during Raya. In fact, I was already back at work on the 3rd day of Syawal. :)

I actually have a not-so-happy story about our baju raya but I do not wish to dwell on it.
All ya’ll need to know is none of us got back our baju raya (and cloth) which we sent to a tailor nearby my house. We = Mr. Sunshine, Khayla, Marc, Marlene, Daddy, Fahim, Linn, Syahieda & I.

Hmm.

Anyway, this year was our turn to celebrate Raya in Batu Pahat first, so immediately after work on the Saturday before Aidilfitri (yes, kerja juga), we drove back to Batu Pahat. Alhamdulillah the traffic was smooth, so we managed to reach my in-laws’ place just before berbuka.

Sunday was Raya eve so we were all busy slicing, dicing, and cooking for the next day !
Many of Mr Sunshine’s relatives were around so the less work for all of us haha.

raya shaklee

A rare occasion in which Mr. Sunshine is helping with filling in ketupats. Haha.

shaklee raya

This is obviously not a rare occasion – me dressed like a makcik, chopping onions in the kitchen.

Ketupats in the making !

After berbuka that day, we performed solat Maghrib berjemaah. :)
Ok not ‘we’, I couldn’t pray at the time, hehe.

And then the barbeque session started !

I also helped out. No, I wasn’t just standing there pretending to hold the squid. Hehe.

On the first day of Syawal, as usual there was the bersalam-salaman & asking for forgiveness session in the morning after the men came back from Solat Sunat Aidilfitri, and then we were off to beraya at Mr. Sunshine’s uncles & aunties houses around Muar. :)

We headed back to Gombak that evening itself.
Had a little Raya dinner with Daddy, Marlene, Marc & family.
The next morning almost all of us were down with diarrhea ! Yes, all of us except for Marc, Daddy and the two kids (Alhamdulillah) had to run to the toilet every hour or so.

My Gombak family. :)

We visited arwah Mummy that morning, then went to Aunty Maziey’s for lunch. :)

raya shaklee

All of us !

Then it was back to Shah Alam for Mr. Sunshine, Khayla and I because I had to work the next day !

Although my Raya leave was short, but Alhamdulillah we got to visit most of Mr. Sunshine’s relatives and be with my side of the family in just two days !

Of course, I don’t leave home without my little pill box of Shaklee supplements to keep me energized through all the traveling (with a kid) and keep the weight off from indulging in all the rendangs and lodeh ! Haha sempat lagi promote. 😀

So that’s how wonderful my Raya was, how was yours ? :)

P.S: There is an awesome DOUBLE PROMOTION from Shaklee going on in September, will write more in my next post !

of dian khayla turning two & our 2013 eid celebrations

944641_10151841392974515_1315655820_n

Well, hello there everyone !
Assamu’alaikum !
Selamat Hari Raya ! Still valid lah I guess since today is the last day of Syawal, teehee. :)

This is going to be a looooong post so bear with me ok ? :)

On the 13th of August, 2 years ago, after 21 hours of labour (yes, you can click here to relive my birthing experience, hee), this precious gem was born !

Happy 2nd Birthday my Beautiful Light !

Thank you Allah. :)

Dearest DK, Mummy loves you so so so so much & I cannot imagine life without you and your incessant chatter.
I pray that you grow up to be bright and the best in this world & the hereafter. May you be blessed with all the pretty, happy & wonderful things you deserve. Aameen.

Loadsa love, hugs & sloppy kisses from your Mummy ! :’)

Mr. Sunshine and I planned a birthday celebration for Khayla at Burger King, Extreme Park, Shah Alam on the August 25th. We invited family, some relatives friends who lived nearby.
I ordered a Barney themed birthday cake & Mr. Sunshine hired ‘Barney’ to entertain the kids.

The Barney we hired turned out to be skinny and looked pretty different (haha) from the real Barney, so Khayla wasn’t really pleased. In fact, she was terrified ! Haha.

The birthday cake from Jasmeen Home Delights

THE BIRTHDAY GIRL, WOOT WOOT !

Cake cutting session. :)

Told ya she was terrified of this version of Barney. Poor baby ! Hehe.
I even had to distract her with a toy to take a picture with Barney.
Us, sans Fahim who was asleep. Hehe. I look so tired !

Arina & pretty Ayra !

With my BFF Annisa and Lene.

The in-laws :)

The extended family ! :)

The friends ! :)

Mak & Abah who came all the way from Batu Pahat. :’)

Disclaimer: No carbonated drinks were served at the party. Hehe.

Alhamdulillah, the party went smoothly. Khayla would like to thank everyone for their presence & presents ! :)

Now moving on to our Raya celebrations this year, as I mentioned in my previous post, we spent Raya eve and the first two days of Syawal in Gombak this year.
Daddy bought beef rendang from Aunty Leha and I made some peanut sauce, chicken curry (as per Mr Sunshine’s request) & boiled some nasi himpit. :)

I had a makeup malfunction on the first day of Syawal. I realized I bought the wrong eyeliner because this one made me look like I have black eyes. Blergh. And because I didn’t bring my makeup remover, I had to deal with fugly eyes the whole day !

Selamat Hari Raya ya’ll ! :)

We went to arwah Mummy’s close friend, Aunty Zainah’s place in the morning. When I was small, I used to think that this was our kampung. Yes, that’s how long we’ve known Aunty Zainah ! :”)

Sunshine ! :)

Seth Fahim wore a baju melayu along with a sampin, super cute tau !

The future dentist and I.

The only photo we took at Aunty Leha’s place was of Khayla and her cousins, hehe.

At Aunty Maziey’s. Just like the good old days. :)

With Sal on the second day of Syawal before leaving for Batu Pahat. :)

Beraya in Batu Pahat in purple. :)

With the in-laws. :)
This was on the 5th of Syawal before going to Akey’s house. :)

My bestie of 15 years with her daughter Qaireen Alisha. :)
Last stop the day before I go back to work – Mak Andak’s. :)

There’s gonna be a huge change in our lives, soon InshaAllah. No, Khayla is not getting a sibling, YET. I’ll blog about it soon.  Ok ok, I’LL TRY to blog about it soon. Don’t be mad if I blog about it 6 months after it happens, haha.

I hope all of you had a splendid Raya ! :)
