A rocky start to 2015

Hello y’all !
Assalamu’alaikum. :)

We bid farewell to 2014 and said hi to 2015, and we’re already on the thirteenth day of the New Year ! Alhamdulillah.

2014 has been a trying year for us Malaysians, with the recent massive floods and planes crashing (or going missing).
2014 was a trying year for my family too, with Khayla being admitted twice to DEMC and me struggling to juggle between my new job, family time & time for Shaklee.

Hopefully 2015 will be much better for all of us. Ameen.

However, 2015 kicked off with Daddy being unwell. He was rushed to the Selayang Hospital on Friday, 2nd January by Marc & Marlene because he was weak and fell in the toilet.
The wards were full so he was observed in the emergency department for 18 hours !
He was finally admitted in the medical ward 9D on Saturday afternoon.

They initially said it was pneumonia, so they started him on antibiotics and he had to put on a face mask for oxygen supply as his percentage of oxygen saturation (SpO2) wasn’t too good.

DaddyCandy

Poor Daddy. :(

On Sunday, they started treating him as COAD, in view of his chronic smoking history and his symptoms were similar to asthma symptoms.
Daddy stopped smoking (cold turkey !) 15 years ago but prior to that he was smoking for more than 30 years.

Soo he was given bronchodilator nebuliser every 4 hours and started on an metered dose inhaler. Daddy said the nebuliser has helped him sleep better. Alhamdulillah.
He was finally discharged on Wednesday, 7th January.

Marc, Marlene, Mr. Sunshine and I took turns to keep Daddy company in the ward.
Marc and I fell sick along the way – fever, chills, body aches purging and loss of appetite !

So that was our rocky start to 2015, but it hasn’t wavered my spirits to move forward. Because, at the end of the day, everything happens for a reason. Allah knows best ! :)

My next post will be on my new year’s resolutions. Hehe.

Okbye.
Take care everyone, stay healthy ! :)

Our Borneo Tour

How does it feel to have your daughter come down with chicken pox when you’re more than 2000 miles away from home ?

Yes.
Exactly.
Hehe.

This post is long overdue but what the heck, it’s always better late than never. Haha.
And I will get to the chicken pox part later. :)

So, in September, we went on a 5 days 4 nights trip to Sabah & Sarawak. Hashtag Borneo Tour. Hehe.

It all started with my Shaklee nanny, Presidential Master Iffah Anuar initiating a Shaklee2u (S2U) Appreciation Tours around Malaysia. When I found out that one of the venues was Karambunai, I knew I just had to go !
What’s awesome about the whole thing is that we just had to pay a RM50 commitment fee to join ! So, we registered somewhere around March.
Then Mr Sunshine suggested that we take a trip to Sarawak as well during that same time.
So, we buat kerja gila and booked 1 night in Kuching, 1 night in Kundasang and 1 night in Kota Kinabalu. In between those nights was the 1 night stay in Karambunai. :)

Day 1 (25 September 2014)
We left home at around 5:00 a.m. and drove to Putrajaya Sentral. We parked our car there and took the KLIA transit to KLIA, dropped our bags and boarded our flight at around 8:00 a.m.

Us at the airport. Hehe

The first place we visited after we arrived in Kuching was the Cat Museum. Khayla was whining in the car telling us that she didn’t want to tengok cats. She isn’t such a big fan of cats. Hehe.
We convinced her that there were no real cats in the museum so she agreed to tag along.

borneo tour shaklee

At the Cat Museum

borneo tour shaklee

This is the closest we will ever get to cat. Hehe.

After that, we headed to the waterfront where we got on a traditional boat ride along the Santubong River. We could have opted to stop at the Kek Lapis Factory or Orchid Park but we didn’t because we had planned to go to the Kek Lapis Factory area by car.

borneo tour

Khayla tak puas hati because a stranger is taking a photo of us using my phone. Hahaha.

Our next stop was the Sarawak Cultural Village !
Since it was almost 4:00 pm and the place closes at 5, we went there just to see the Cultural Dance (which Khayla did not enjoy, haha).
She isn’t too fond of dark places and loud sounds (even the sounds of my cake mixer agitates her) so we had to distract her by allowing her to watch Upin & Ipin on Mr. Sunshine’s phone.

borneo tour shaklee

borneo tour shaklee

While I was striking a pose, Khayla ran up to me and stuck those stickers on my sleeves. Sabotage !

borneo tour shaklee
On the other hand, Mr. Sunshine and I really enjoyed the show. We would surely come back again and next time we’ll make sure we’ll have time to go around the cultural village.

While Khayla took a nap in the car, we drove to the Kek Lapis shops and bought two cakes just for us to munch on. We didn’t buy many to bring home because we were leaving for Sabah the following day and would only leave for KL 4 days after that. We didn’t want the cakes to go to waste.

Managed to squeeze some time to meet Yamin, our ex-classmate in UiTM for dinner that night. We had Mee Kolok !

Day 2 (26 September 2014)

We packed our bags, checked out, had Laksa Sarawak for breakfast at the hotel and then headed to the Main Bazaar where they sold souvenirs and handicrafts.

borneo tour shaklee

Laksa Sarawak.

borneo tour shaklee

She just had to get a kucing comb from Kuching.

borneo tour shaklee

And you see how she’s trying to get her kucing comb into the photo ? Hehe.

Drove straight to the airport after that and boarded our plane at around 11:00 am. Our flight was in transit in Mulu for immigration inspection.

borneo tour shaklee

MAS Wings kiddie food pack. So cute !

borneo tour shaklee

Khayla was obviously only attracted to the chocolate.

borneo tour shaklee

We can go around telling people that we have been to Mulu. Muahaha.

Finally reached Kota Kinabalu International Airport at around 2:00 pm and our first destination was The Upside Down House (Rumah Terbalik).

borneo tour shaklee

Ayah & Khayla in front of the Upside Down House.

borneo tour shaklee

Kuatkan mereka ?

Khayla enjoyed The Upside Down House so much that she was talking about it the whole way to our hotel in Kundasang. Hehe.

We checked in at Kinabalu Pine Resort late that evening. The place was super cold. Fortunately our room was facing Mount Kinabalu and the view was just magnificent !

borneo tour shaklee

View of Mount Kinabalu. Subhanallah !

borneo tour shaklee

This one Khayla tak puas hati with Mummy’s way of posing. -___-

borneo tour

Ha baru betul. Mummy ke depan, Khayla ke belakang. Macam tu ye ? As long as you’re happy baby. Hehe

Day 3 (27 September 2014)

We visited the Desa Dairy Farm where we got to feed goat & cow calves. Fun for Ayah & Khayla, a little nerve wrecking for Mummy. Hehe.

borneo tour shaklee

borneo tour shaklee

Can you tell who’s nervous and who’s not ? Hehe.

borneo tour shaklee

Subhanallah. :)

Mr. Sunshine bought a box of chocolate milk from the shop at the farm. Weird because he doesn’t usually drink milk but he finished the whole box so that’s ok.

Sooo, our next destination was Karambunai !
We finally arrived in Nexus, Karambunai at around 3 pm.
The place brought back memories of arwah Mummy. :'(

borneo tour shaklee

Panoramic view from our room. :)

The S2U Tour in Karambunai was kicked off with a telematch.
To be honest, I am usually not up to these kinda things. I am usually the one who would be sitting at the side, cheering for people but this time I joined in and had loads of fun.

borneo tour shaklee

Post telematch

Not everyone knew each other so it was a great way to break the ice !

borneo tour shaklee

Khayla & I took a short dip in the fool before dinner that night. :)

Dinner was provided for us that night, and the theme was blue. It wasn’t a formal dinner so I just put on my jeans and blue blouse. Hehe.

With Nadiah, one of my ‘anak’ in Shaklee. She’s a pharmacist too. Next to her Suzi. We just met !

Day 4 (28 September 2014)

The highlight of the S2U Tour was the ‘Tusukan Qalbu’ session on Sunday.
This was when we got to participate in sharing sessions by S2U masters and masters to-be.
But that morning as soon as I woke up, I noticed some red spots on Khayla’s forehead. Checked her body and found that she had a few spots on her torso too.
I immediately woke Mr. Sunshine up and asked, “Khayla ada chicken pox ke ha ? Ini bintik-bintik apa ni ??” (you see how I asked as if he would know the answer right after he opened his eyes lah, haha)

I sent pictures of the spots to my MSE WhatsApp group and asked their opinions. Some said yes it was chicken pox. Some said it didn’t look like chicken pox.

We got ready to attend the sessions on that day but being a mother, I couldn’t help but be so worried about Khayla.
Firstly, of course I am worried about her, I want her to be well.
Secondly, we were in Karambunai – if it was chicken pox, how to get on a flight back to KL ?

borneo tour shaklee

Despite the discovery of the spots, we took a quick stroll by the beach.

Mr. Sunshine attended the first session where husbands shared their experiences being masters and Shaklee husbands. Hehe. Khayla and I took a walk outside the hall, because I didn’t dare to bring her in and spread the virus to everyone else there.
After that, I attended the second session while Mr. Sunshine took Khayla to the nearest clinic.

I don’t know if all mothers are the same but I get so worked up if Khayla is unwell, especially when she is down with fever, because of her history of febrile fits.
So you can imagine how distracted I was during the whole session.

It was no surprise the doctor confirmed it was chicken pox !

So Mr. Sunshine headed straight back to the hotel room with Khayla and I tried my best to focus on the sharing sessions.
The sessions opened my eyes in so many ways, well it didn’t only open them, one of the sessions even made them cry ! Hehe.
borneo tour shaklee

Thank you to all who shared their knowledge and experience.
Thank you to Master Iffah Anuar and Master Firdhaus for organizing this amazing event.
Beautiful souls, these two.

Imagine getting FREE accomodation in a 5-star hotel (ok almost FREE minus the RM50 commitment fee), FREE food, FREE company of amazingly positive & successful people and most importantly FREE valuable knowledge !
I love my Shaklee family ! :)

Day 5 (29 September 2014)

But our trip didn’t end there, our flight back to KL was on Monday (night !) so we had a one night’s stay in Kota Kinabalu left.
We headed to our hotel. And practically just stayed in there until Monday evening because of Khayla’s chicken pox.

borneo tour shaklee

Chicken pox spots on my baby’s face. :(

How did we manage to bring Khayla back home on the flight ?

Like this……

borneo tour shaklee

Poor Khayla. :(

I am terribly sorry Air Asia, but I couldn’t bear the thought of being quarantined in a hotel room in Kota Kinabalu for a week !

Anyway, this was almost 3 months ago. We enjoyed our Borneo Tour and we would definitely be back.
We are planning to bring my family to Sarawak (because we have been to Sabah) and Mr. Sunshine’s family to Sabah.

Khayla’s chicken pox resolved quite fast (in less than 5 days), Alhamdulillah.
I made sure I gave her Meal Shakes in every serving of her milk along with a dash on Nutriferon.
Bathed her with Basic H, applied calamine lotion on her spots followed by Herbal Blend on them once they were dried up. *please read the disclaimer on the right side of my blog :)*

borneo tour shaklee

Applied calamine lotion on the spots.

Alhamdulillah.
——————
I finally did it !
Finally finished composing this post, haha.
Thanks for reading. :)

Anyone been to Sarawak & Sabah ? Any other places that you would suggest we go ? :)

I vow to try write more often after this.
Hehe.

Ok bye !

Our Raya 2014

So I am finally getting down to writing about our Aidilfitri celebration in the month of Zulkaedah. Hehe. Well, better late than never, kan ?

I wasn’t on a long leave during Raya. In fact, I was already back at work on the 3rd day of Syawal. :)

I actually have a not-so-happy story about our baju raya but I do not wish to dwell on it.
All ya’ll need to know is none of us got back our baju raya (and cloth) which we sent to a tailor nearby my house. We = Mr. Sunshine, Khayla, Marc, Marlene, Daddy, Fahim, Linn, Syahieda & I.

Hmm.

Anyway, this year was our turn to celebrate Raya in Batu Pahat first, so immediately after work on the Saturday before Aidilfitri (yes, kerja juga), we drove back to Batu Pahat. Alhamdulillah the traffic was smooth, so we managed to reach my in-laws’ place just before berbuka.

Sunday was Raya eve so we were all busy slicing, dicing, and cooking for the next day !
Many of Mr Sunshine’s relatives were around so the less work for all of us haha.

raya shaklee

A rare occasion in which Mr. Sunshine is helping with filling in ketupats. Haha.

shaklee raya

This is obviously not a rare occasion – me dressed like a makcik, chopping onions in the kitchen.

shaklee raya

Ketupats in the making !

After berbuka that day, we performed solat Maghrib berjemaah. :)
Ok not ‘we’, I couldn’t pray at the time, hehe.

And then the barbeque session started !

raya shaklee

Mr. Sunshine with his cousin & uncle hard at work barbecuing fishes and squids.

I also helped out. No, I wasn’t just standing there pretending to hold the squid. Hehe.

On the first day of Syawal, as usual there was the bersalam-salaman & asking for forgiveness session in the morning after the men came back from Solat Sunat Aidilfitri, and then we were off to beraya at Mr. Sunshine’s uncles & aunties houses around Muar. :)

We headed back to Gombak that evening itself.
Had a little Raya dinner with Daddy, Marlene, Marc & family.
The next morning almost all of us were down with diarrhea ! Yes, all of us except for Marc, Daddy and the two kids (Alhamdulillah) had to run to the toilet every hour or so.

My Gombak family. :)

A ‘wefie’ of us haha.

We visited arwah Mummy that morning, then went to Aunty Maziey’s for lunch. :)

raya shaklee

All of us !

Then it was back to Shah Alam for Mr. Sunshine, Khayla and I because I had to work the next day !

Although my Raya leave was short, but Alhamdulillah we got to visit most of Mr. Sunshine’s relatives and be with my side of the family in just two days !

Of course, I don’t leave home without my little pill box of Shaklee supplements to keep me energized through all the traveling (with a kid) and keep the weight off from indulging in all the rendangs and lodeh ! Haha sempat lagi promote. 😀

So that’s how wonderful my Raya was, how was yours ? :)

P.S: There is an awesome DOUBLE PROMOTION from Shaklee going on in September, will write more in my next post !

Ramadhan vs Syawal

Hi ya’ll !

I am currently blogging from the Paediatric Ward of DEMC. Khayla has been admitted here since last Thursday due to pneumonia. This is DK’s second hospital admission.

Alhamdulillah she is much better now. We’re hoping to be discharged tomorrow. InshaAllah. Aameen.

She is currently asleep, which explains why Mummy is so rajin to blog even from her mobile !

Khayla Ramadhan vs. Syawal admission

I am much better now everyone, thank you !

Shaklee for kids

Supplements for Khayla while she is warded. :)

I have been away from work for almost a week now, I can only imagine the amount of work I have to finish before Raya.

Speaking of Raya, I will only be on leave on the 1st and 2nd day of Raya so this year it will be a quick trip to Batu Pahat and we’ll be back in Gombak in the evening of the 1st day of Syawal. InshaAllah. :)

I am now learning to appreciate Ramadhan more than Syawal and I am genuinely very sad that Ramadhan is coming to an end.

(Hence the Ramadhan vs Syawal post title.)

It has been a culture for us here to look forward to Syawal (Raya to be exact) rather than focusing on fully submitting ourselves during Ramadhan.
1st of Syawal is actually a celebration for us who have completed Ramadhan. And completed doesn’t only mean fasting from food and drinks. There is a whole lot more to Ramadhan than that !

Some even cry when they don’t get to see their parents/children/aunts/uncles/cousins during Raya instead of crying because Ramadhan has come to an end. Yes, I was one of them.

I hope to change.
I want to change !

InshaAllah.
To istiqamah is always a struggle for me.

Anyway, I am craving Nando’s and I am secretly hoping Mr. Sunshine (who is at work now) reads this and would surprise me with a quarter meal (hot) with grilled salad & mediterranean rice for berbuka tonight. Haha.

Ok bye.

Princess down with fever

Khayla has been down with fever since Monday. Poor baby.

I am currently at home. I took leave to nurse my little baby-girl back to good health. She doesn’t have much of an appetite too.

Her temperature seems to be slightly higher at night. Hence, sleepless nights for both DK and I.

I am thinking of bringing her to a doctor this evening if she is still unwell. I am hoping it’s just viral fever. I have been giving her Nutriferon, Chewable Vita C along with her usual Meal Shakes. I bathed her with a few drops of Basic H too, to help bring down her fever.

Oh this time around I applied a drop of Vivix on her nose, for her flu. :)

fever flu vivix

Get well soon, baby !

So she’s looking a bit like Rudolph. Hehe.

I still am giving her Paracetamol syrup because I do not want to risk her having another febrile fit (she had another episode at the sitter’s in March).

Being the paranoid mother that I am, I check her temperature every 10 minutes. She has gotten used to it and even requests for me to check the temperature in BOTH ears ! Hehe.

Being sick, all she wants to do is lie down near to me and whine. Poor girl.

On another note, there’s this video about a woman lashing out at an old man for hitting her car going viral on the internet. I do not want to comment on what happened in the video but I feel that spreading it around just isn’t right. Especially in this holy month of Ramadhan.
Anyway I am in no position to tell anyone anything, this is just a personal opinion. :)

I am off to feed Khayla some porridge. :)

Bye !

Updates !

Assalamu’alaikum lovelies !
Hi. :)

How is everyone doing ?
I can’t believe that it’s already 16th Ramadhan 1435H.
Are we satisfied with what we have done for the past 16 days ? Have we satisfied Allah ?

Alhamdulillah, Khayla turned 3 last Friday according to the Hijrah calendar (13 Ramadhan), but her actual birth date is 13th August 2014, so we’re waiting until next month to get a cake. I am thinking of a Frozen themed one, because she’s Anna and I am Elsa (and Ayah is Olaf ‘gemuk’, tsk tsk), ya know ? Hehe.

Any suggestions on where I can get it from ?
20140706_152331
Oh boy, I can’t believe she’s 3 !
She is sooooo talkative. Mr. Sunshine claims she got that trait from me, pfffftt. :-p

I have been sending her to a nursery since April this year.
Which means she is no longer being taken care of by the babysitter in front of our house because she would cry every single morning when I dropped her off. It was torturous to see her like that every morning. I would sometimes cry all the way to work too ! Tsk tsk.

But Alhamdulillah, she does not cry in the mornings anymore. Well, there are the occasional emo sessions but it is a whole lot better than crying EVERY DAY.
She is learning quite a lot from the nursery. New songs, new doas, new words. Most of them are in Malay lah. She knows the doa makan & meaning, doa tidur & meaning, doa selepas makan, ayat Kursi and she loves to berzikir. She insists that I play my zikir CD in the car every day. Alhamdulillah.

My only worry is that she not speaking English. Yes she does know some English words, but 80% of her vocabulary is in Malay. I am not trying to say that English is more superior than Malay, but I grew up speaking English at home so it’s only natural that I would want her to be able to speak in English too. The Malay language is not an issue, because it’s our mother tongue, pasti boleh cakap melayu punya. :)
Is it too late to get her to learn English ?
I would appreciate any tips. :)

I wanted to blog about my new workplace but I think I have written too much already hehe.
I guess I’ll save that for another post. :)

Until then, bye !

day 27

Hello all !

Assalamu’alaikum. :)

How has your 27 days of Ramadhan been so far ?
There’s still time to repent, change and make this our best Ramadhan ever, InshaAllah. :)

My Ramadhan has been good, Alhamdulillah, better than last year (I hope) but there’s so much more that I wish I could do. 2 more days to go !

This year, we’ll be celebrating Raya in Gombak first, InshaAllah. :)
It will be Mr. Sunshine’s first Raya eve in Gombak. I hope he adjusts well.

Mr. Sunshine is currently out for terawikh while Khayla & I are waiting for my Shaklee customer to come pick up her supplements. :)

Gotta go layan my daughter now. Bye !

soda pop.

acidic-alkaline-phchart

Hi all. :)

I just had to document this.
This is going to be hard to believe but I HAVE NOT HAD A CARBONATED DRINK SINCE APRIL !
Woohoo !
I consider this a huge achievement because prior to that I was downing Coke Light (and going to McDonald’s) AT LEAST once a week. :(
Even Mr Sunshine is amazed that I can live without Coke Light. Haha.

This is a decision I made based on the increased frequency of my cold sores, I did some research and I found out that an acidic diet contributes to cold sore flare ups. Although Shaklee products helped in decreasing my cold sores severity and duration, they were still popping up more frequent than usual.

Plus, I don’t want my daughter to gain the habit of drinking soft drinks too !

I used to stay away from sodas until I was in UiTM, and that was also when my insane love affair with McDonald’s started. I used to study every day at McDonald’s during examination week, imagine that !

So basically I have been avoiding fast food and most importantly carbonated drinks. If  I do go to a fast food joint (which is pretty rare these days), I’ll skip the soft drinks. :)

I am so frickin’ proud of myself.

Ok bye. :)

between getting old and old memories.

Okayyyy it’s about time for an update !
*blows dust off blog*

I’m so sorry for abandoning this space for more than two months ! I wonder if anyone still reads my blog ? Anyone ? Hello ?

*crickets sounds*

These days I always fall asleep earlier than I intend to every night. I usually doze off while putting Khayla to bed, not because I am exhausted or tired but because our bed has become just too comfy since Mr. Sunshine brought our portable air cond from Gombak to Shah Alam. *blushes*
As much as I want to stay up, I just succumb to the cool breeze and comfy mattress, sometimes even BEFORE Khayla dozes off. Haha. So that’s why I have so little to no time to blog. :)

Before I start rambling away, this a personal message to Mel Ng, haha.
Mel ! You can connect with me on Instagram (melissaraffur) and Facebook (Melissa Raffur). 😀

Anywayyy, life hasn’t changed so much since I last wrote.
Khayla is officially off the pacifier. Alhamdulillah. I feel that her pacifier has played a role in her frequent fever/flu all this while.

I turned 29 last month. Happy birthday to me ! Do I feel old ? Nope. Haha, with the exception of my osteoarthritic knees, I think I’m doing okayy for a 29-year old. Do I look old ? Haha that’s for you to judge lah. :p

Marc treated me (along with the rest of the family) to some Seoul Garden. Yums ! I was down with stomach poisoning that weekend, but it didn’t stop me from gobbling down all the delicious food.

The sister in-law treated me to some Fullhouse. :)

Annisa darling took me to Baci, Citta Mall. :)

Mr. Sunshine brought me out on a date to watch Iron Man 3, wheee !

Awww, I feel so blessed. Alhamdulillah. :)

I just got back from a getaway to Cherating last weekend with my family (Daddy, Marc, Marlene, Linn & Fahim included !). Cherating brings back a lot sweet memories when arwah Mummy was still around, so it was good to be able to go back there and reminisce.

Khayla and I at our favourite Hai Peng Kopitiam.

Before leaving our Antara Suite at Holiday Villa, Cherating.

You can view the rest of the photos on Instagram. :)

Ok gotta get back to playing the Fishing Game with Khayla.
What Fishing Game ?

THIS ONE !

Hahahaha. Khayla loves to catch the ‘pish’ and ‘atak’ (masak) them for me.

Ok bye.
