Potty Training Tips

Good morning y’all ! πŸ™‚

Alhamdulillah we can say that Khayla has been 98% potty trained since November last year when she was 39 months old. I know some people might be thinking that 39 months is a bit late for potty training but every mummy knows what’s best for their child, kan kan kan ? πŸ™‚

Potty Training Tips
Thanks Google !

I will not say she is 100% potty trained because she still needs to wear diapers when she sleeps.
But apart from that, she goes around diaper-free ! Here are my potty training tips. πŸ™‚

Actually, prior to our success, I have tried to potty train her twice, I tried the ‘asking method,’ you know asking her every 5 minutes whether she wanted to go pee. She would answer no but she always ended up peeing in her pants. I gave up because I felt bad when she felt bad about peeing in her pants. Hehe.

But early November last year while I was on leave for a couple of days, I tried a different method.
I decided to not let her wear diapers but instead of asking her whether she needed to pee, I brought her to the toilet every 15 minutes.
Well, I started with 15 minutes, then it was every 30 minutes and slowly worked up to an hour. Within 2 days, she was able to pee AND poop on her own ! πŸ™‚

Getting her to do her no. 2 in the toilet was a bit of a challenge though, although she always could tell us when she felt like going, the first few times were difficult because I guess she was still trying to get the ‘feel’ because she was so used to pooping in her diapers behind doors, behind sofas or curtains. Haha.

But Alhamdulillah she managed to get herself to poop in the toilet within that two days.
Alhamdulillah.
I am so proud of my baby ! *happy tears*

Here are what I think are some useful tips:

  1. Make sure your child is really ready
    – Is your child giving youΒ physical or verbal sign when he’s having a bowel movement such as grunting, squatting, or telling you.
    – Does your child demonstrate a desire for independence. Khayla starting telling us that she does not want to wear diapers because she’s a big girl now. Hehe.
  2. Follow whatever works for your child. The ‘asking method’ might not have worked for me, but it could work for you. So go ahead and try.
  3. It helps if they’re mixing with older children who do not wear diapers. Like in my case, Khayla had friends at her nursery so that kinda influenced her too. πŸ™‚
  4. Don’t get angry at them for peeing or pooping everywhere during the process. Hehe. Be patient parents ! Getting angry at them will only discourage them. I’m sure they already feel guilty about peeing in their pants, please don’t make them feel worse. Reassure them that it’s ok and you know they didn’t do it on purpose.
  5. If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again (thanks Aaliyah). Never give up, try again & again. Have trust and faith in you child, both of you will make it ! πŸ™‚

Good luck y’all ! πŸ™‚

The Battle of Head Lice and Khayla’s New Hairdo

4 weeks ago, I decided to chop Khayla’s hair off after her nursery teacher told me that she had head lice (again !).

Allow me to shed some light on our experience with head lice.

The first time we discovered Khayla had lice was after we got back from our Borneo Tour. What’s worse my head was infected too ! I noticed that she was scratching her head while we were in Karambunai, but I thought it was due to the chicken pox.Β I was also scratching my head, and I thought it was because I was using the hotel’s shampoo instead of my usual Prosante Shampoo. How blur can one be ? Isk isk.
When we found out from her nursery teacher that she had lice, then it all made sense. Haha.

Managed to settle that episode with lots of head lice shampoo, Basic H and lots of combing. Note: Never use those plastic combs which come with the lice shampoo. They’re useless !

And the Khayla came home with lice again two weeks after that. I guess she got it from her friends who got it from her. Isk isk. This time I decided that drastic times call for drastic measures !

I sought help from the Lice Ninja.
Lice Ninja was a saviour.
Both Khayla and I went for a treatment in their outlet in Subang and within 30 minutes all the lice and nits were gone !

I felt like a new person.
Haha.

Anyway that was it and when I thought our lice nightmare was gone, her nursery teacher dropped the bomb on us again. Drama, much ?

But this time around it was not as bad as the first and second episodes so it didn’t take a lot of combing to get the lice & nits out.

So while I was combing her hair with the lice comb (you would not believe that this happened the same morning Daddy was warded), I asked her whether I could cut her hair. At first she said no because she wanted long hair like Elsa’s. The problem with her keeping her hair long is she doesn’t like it being tied up, so it always looks messy. And with the head lice issue, long hair makes it a bit of a challenge to comb.

After I personally attempted to cut her hair, I realized that it was not as easy as I thought and I am so cut out to be a hairdresser. One side of her hair was shorter than the other but since we were rushing to go to the hospital, I let my daughter run free with the ugly hair cut I gave her. Isk isk.

A week after that, I brought her to a hair saloon to get her hair fixed. Hehe.

Alhamdulillah she was well behaved through the whole process. πŸ™‚

Check out Khayla’s new hairdo ! Hehe.

From now onwards, I am planning to apply the lice cream on Khayla’s hair 2-3 times a week. Better to be safe than sorry, kan ?

So I made a classic baked macaroni and cheese for our Christmas lunch at Aunty Thelma’s last December.
It was my first time baking it, usually I just cook it over the stove.

You can also use this same recipe to make a one-pot macaroni and cheese, details below. πŸ™‚

Baked Macaroni and Cheese

230 g elbow macaroni
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon salt

  2. Melt butter in a large saucepan (I used a pot) over medium-low heat; whisk in flour until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly, 2 minutes. 3. Lightly grease a 2 liter baking dish and pour cooked pasta into it.
  4. Pour mixture cheese mixture into the pasta, top with remaining 1 cup cheese.
  5. Bake at 200Β°C for 20 minutes or until bubbly. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

(One-Pot Macaroni and Cheese: Prepare recipe as directed, stirring all grated Cheddar cheese into thickened milk mixture until melted. Add cooked pasta, and serve immediately.)
